Every so often on social media I see a pet where someone says "it takes me 5 minutes to fuel my car and I get loads of range, EVs can't do that. Initially I thought, yeah you have a point but then I thought about it more and that is kinda missing the point.
I had to take my old Renault Zoe in for servicing at the end of last year and they provided me with a hire car for the day as I had stuff to do and they needed to also fix a warranty issue. The car i was given was a Renault Clio, petrol and i am not sure it was a hybrid as it was a manual car. They gave it to me and said that "it needed fuel" so i get in and see it is on empty.
My first issue is getting used to gears again, okay, i stalled once but then i wentbto the petrol station which was what I thought was a Shell near Ikea in Bristol. i get there open up and put the cheap fuel in not noticing that it was not a shell, and once filled lock it and walk in.
In front of me is someone picking up and returning some Evri parcels so i am behind them and wait a few minutes to get served and pay and leave.
The time it took was about 8 minutes from arriving, and i had to take a 2-3 minute detour so about 11 minutes in total.
So filling up my EV, that takes hours at home right? Not really, as I am at home, what happens is I press the release, take the little rubber cap off, pop in my charge cord and go about my day.
Now every time someone writes that I say that takes ages as it takes me only 10 seconds to charge my EV - and no-one is in front of me doing parcels.
